This gorgeously illustrated book is a must have for any young person’s (and art lover’s) collection! Literally hundreds of full bleed illustrations, make this beautiful book an absolute feast for the eyes, while the writing is light and engaging- all around charming and informative for any age- The oversized format, off-beat color palettes, modern/retro graphic design, and textured hard-cover, harken back to vintage mid-century reference atlases and adventure books that will make it hard to decide if you want to display this book proudly, or take it with you everywhere in your backpack. I’ve bought three copies for my sister and friends, and it’ll be my go-to gift for any birthday, as this book is sure to delight anyone who gets their hands and eyes on it. I’m going to cherish this modern classic as much as my young daughter surely will!
Wow, this book is so beautiful! I loved Chris Turnham's retro-classic illustrations in The Wish Tree so I pre-ordered this book, and it is even better than I expected. The format is really cool, it reminds me of an old textbook, but so much prettier! Every page is full of information, but it's presented in a crisp graphic and visually approachable way so it never overwhelms. The full-bleed silkscreened illustrations are so beautiful and a refreshing change from a lot of contemporary picture books that look computer-drafted. I bought this for my 3 year old's upcoming birthday, but I think it would work for a wide range of ages and I can definitely see it being treasured for a long time. It wouldn't feel out of place on an adult's mid-century modern coffee table, either! Definitely a book worth giving, or treating yourself to, and a lovely tribute to the wonder of America's National Parks-- it'll make you want to visit them all!
What an amazing way to introduce children to our National Parks! And given the myriad threats to these national treasures, the timing for such a book couldn't be more perfect.As a kid, I grew up in a town that is literally called the "Gateway to Yosemite", so it should be no surprise that I spent a lot of time there growing up. Since those days, I've been to all of the National Parks on the West Coast, and I dream of taking my children to see them as well, so we can enjoy them together. These days we live in Maine, and we hope to make it up to Acadia this summer! My point is, my love for these natural treasures runs deep, and I thrill at anyway I can foster a deeper sense of excitement about the parks within my children. This book is a stupendous way to connect children with the wonders that are our National Parks (particularly children who might not have easy access to a National Park!). The illustrations are perfection, and all the information about the habitats in each park is fantastic. My children are going to go wild over this book when I get my pre-ordered copy in July (can't wait!!).This is a MUST have book for kids. Heck, it's a must have book for ME ! And I plan to be gifting this book to all of our first-grade (and maybe second-grade) teachers in the upcoming school year. MUST. READ.Note: I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley. Absolutely stunning! I love a great non-fiction children’s book and this one is perfection. Beautifully illustrated, this oversized book is full of lots of fun facts about about the flora and fauna of America’s national parks. I ordered my copy as a Christmas gift for my three year old but I’m not sure I’ll be able to save it until then!
Finally! A book for all ages and the perfect gift. I’ve been following Chris Turnham for sometime and absolutely love his illustrations and previous releases of his National Park Posters. I was waiting for the day he would create a book like this. I’m 30 and my husband is 35 we both love this book as much as a 7 year old would. This is just the perfect book too flip through and also educational. For anyone who loves the outdoors or adventure purchase this book to share with someone in your life. It really is perfect
What an amazing book with wonderful illustrations! I loved the fun and easily digestible information about our National Parks and their plants and animals. It is an awesome book for kids, and for us adults too since it has such amazing artwork. Getting this as a gift for all my nieces and nephews as well as all of my friends’ kids!
I purchased this book after seeing some of the illustrations in my social media feed and it doesn't disappoint. I love the little factoids about different plants and animals. The book does a great job of showing a cross section of what the national parks have to offer and the art is AMAZING! I can't get over how many beautiful illustrations are packed into one book. Every time I open it I find something new to gush over. The book it's self is also extremely well-made. The pages are a nice mid-weight matte stock and the cover is a printed and embossed canvas, really well made. It's a much higher quality than your average kid's picture book.
Love this book at the artist. This is one of those richly layered picture books that you can look at for hours and it inspires visits to all of the National Parks.
