OMG!. It is like I wrote this book. I am a Southerner, too, but hail from Florida. Different parts of Florida have different dialects and colloquialisms. I have to say, I am reading the exact things I say. And the "Can't Make this S#### up" is said a tad bit different - more salty, but I can relate to much of the author's life. From childhood to adult. How can I not like this book? I didn't set the backside of dumbness addressed, but, it always starts out with "you aren't gonna believe this" or "you can't make this S### up". who knows - there could be a followup.

Can't Make This Stuff Up! by Susannah B. Lewis is relatable and lovable. The stories Susannah shares will resonate with the reader long after they're done reading the book. Susannah shares her heart and you'll laugh and cry alongside her. Grief from the loss of (three) parents, being bullied in school and online by trolls, and parenting struggles make this woman someone we'd all love to call friend. She shares her life, lessons, and wisdom, all laced with the Word of God and Biblical principles. Looking for a fresh Christian book for women? Give this one a try.

You don't have to be from the South to enjoy this book. Her writing style is enjoyed by lots of folks. She's already a popular blogger and I hope there is a follow up to this one.Highly recommendedYou will probably thank me for suggesting you read it.

She is of a different generation and gender from me, but having lived more than 30 years in the South at different points in my life, I thought I’d look at her style and messages.This is a 200 page book in 12 chapters. Her values are often shared through her stories, with a Southern focus or twist.These values are included in stories about:• Losing her parents ( her mother was a more central figure)• Stray dogs and cats that her father often brought home (her mother was afraid of cats)• Growing up situations of pets, high school and some of the hang-ups we all have stories• Cabbage Patch dolls – need one say more?• Becoming a parent• Dealing with children and sportsReligion plays an important role in Lewis’s messages. Some of her stories are tongue in cheek while others show her beliefs, concerns and commitments for herself and those around her.Lewis’s style is her own, but I must say I see a blend of some:1. Lewis Grizzard – a self-proclaimed southern redneck style writer who loved to share funny stories about all of his extended family and3. This book made me laugh! She helped me get over the dumps I’ve been in. My mother died a few months ago and I have had a hard time getting past losing her. The author talked about losing her mother & helped me put losing my mother in perspective. It was as if she knew exactly like I felt. Her humor helped me to laugh out loud. She is a new favorite author of nonfiction. I think everyone, especially women will enjoy this book! Highly recommended!

Jensen and Harris-Watkins substitute readings from the Apocrypha and various other sources, including hymns of the early Church (nimbly translated from Syriac, Greek and Hebrew by Jensen). Also, the authors borrow readings from many different faith traditions, which are helpfully introduced in a special table at the end of the book. The book even includes a few craft suggestions for women to make items that are related to the prayer rites. Finally someone published a book that is prayerful and inspirational and not dependent on all the male gender God references that get so tiresome. Buy this book and teach these prayers to your children and grandchildren.

Given the sad present condition of the Episcopal Church in the USA, the publication of this book should not be surprising. The book is put forth by an Episcopal author as an alternative "prayer book" using "feminine images of God." Perhaps half of the text is unobjectionable, drawing on some Psalms and other Scriptures for readings. The Church Calendar (p. 102) is largely made up of Christian figures. But these orthodox citations are placed among a collection of non-Christian gods, feminist heroines and pagan conjectures, suggesting that all of them are equally valid. (Examples: January 14, 15, 22; February 4, 7, 9, 15, 19, etc. ad nauseum)I take particular note of "A Rite To Redeem Eden's Goodness" (p. 164) and "A Ritual of Joining Two People Into A Covenant Relationship" (p. 160). The rite to "redeem" creates a complete substitute for the sacrifice of Jesus Body and Blood in the eucharist, re-enacting the eating of the "apple" that introduced sin to mankind. ("Taste and see that you are good" -- !!! p. 168) The "covenant joining" rite is written to avoid any limitation of the "two people" to a male-female marriage covenant.An "alternative Lord's Prayer" by Jim Cotter is used repeatedly (p. 24, 30, 159, etc.). Cotter is a founder of a Gay and Lesbian Christian Movement in England (there is no identification of him offered in this book). The Lord's Prayer from Scripture is never used, presumably because it speaks of God only as a Father, and this book has a strident feminist agenda.A new series of Collects (p. 166 ff) addresses God variously as "Heavenly Mother-Father," "Motherly Father," "Holy God of Inner Vision," "Mother Spirit," and in one case adopts a Muslim mystic's designation "God of the Beautiful Names." These are sprinkled among more orthodox titles, again suggesting they're all acceptable and appropriate - but also clearly shoving any unique Christian claims off the table.Elsewhere the book offers prayers to Bast, the Egyptian Cat Goddess (p. 14), Arianrhod, the Moon Goddess of Wales (p. 24), the White Buffalo Calf Woman (p. 26), Pele, Goddess of Volcanoes (p. 40), Lilith (p. 45, "I was the first woman, created before Eve"), even to Thunder (p. 37) and Trees (p. 50)!!This syncretistic embrace of any and all religions is made explicit (if you haven't gotten the point already) in a "Service of Reconciliation" (p. 175 ff) which includes prayer for "the followers of the religions of the world and for those with no religion" (p. 178) in which various cults and heretical sects, including wicca, are lauded for their contributions.

One look at the Table of Contents of SHE WHO PRAYS: A WOMAN'S INTERFAITH PRAYER BOOK, and you know you're in for something quite different. The book is a collaboration between two very Spirit-filled women. This is no ordinary Prayer Book! Where, for instance, can you find prayers for 'Round People in Square Holes'? And the Weekly Collects written by Harris-Watkins are simply brilliant. However, to me, the truly astonishing quality of this Prayer Book are its depth of Spirituality, Mysticism, and Vision. The words coming out of the minds of these two women, and the way they have set them down on paper, have got to be Cosmically Inspired!

Not to diminish any one area...but, it all speaks to me. There is nothing that Jane or Pat wrote that I did not feel God's presence in. The entire book is beautiful. It's filled with the Holy Spirit and it makes you want to come back and read more. It's a work of art that is aesthetically pleasing, spiritually uplifting, cultural,...and entertaining!!! Both Jane and Pat are very gifted writers and scholars! Thank you for your gift to society! You are both wonderful spiritual leaders!!!

Initially I had to wonder, Why an entire book as an index? Even the word "Cyclopedic" held virtually no meaning for me...until I saw this little wonder in action. It's so amazing, it's actually fun to use.Example: Look up "ANGER." My study Bible has 25 reference entries. Good, right? Cyclopedic Index has 3 divisions ([Anger] of God, of Jesus, of Humans), 10 subdivisions: Caused by humankind's; Described as; Visitation upon; Deliverance from; Justifiable, Unjustifiable, Seen in; Christian attitude toward; Effects of; Pacified by. And within these combined sections there are total of well over 60 sub-subdivisions (I got tired of counting at 65)."DAVID" - Broken down by: Early Life of, Fugitive hero, King over Judah, King over Israel, etc. Then it's easy to find: Commits adultery, Repents, Last words of, Organizes worship, and so on and so on.Even the word "Almond" has five reference entries; my study Bible, none (and that's ok. I'm just sayin...).It also gives thorough explanations, word roots and histories, and examples. I love that it gives definitions for virtually every word entry:: "Hostage" a person held as security; "Humaneness" a kind spirit; "Reprobate" one whose character is utterly bad. And you can readily see meanings of names used in the Bible.Can't begin to imagine the staggering amount of work that had to have gone into compiling this pure-gold resource, and I' sure thankful for it. I can't praise this book enough. My only complaint would be that it took too long for me to find out about it.

The information in the book is great, but accessing it is another story. There is no spine column, and the book doesn't lay flat. Unless you crack the spine the book will not stay open to any page. This renders the book extremely hard to use while studying.

THIS IS CONTAINED IN THE FRONT OF MY HUSBANDS BIBLE AND I WANTED ONE OF MY OWN. I WAS REALLY HAPPY WITH THE BOOK I RECEIVED. IT IS AMAZINGLY THICK AND VERY CLEAR AND IS WELL, WELL WORTH THE PRICE I PAID. I WOULD EVEN BUY MORE TO GIVE AS GIFTS.

Ordered this because my original Open Bible is falling apart, but I use this cyclopedic index a lot, and wanted to have one to carry with my new Bible. Just wish it wasn't so thick.

Excellent! Perfect for studying and for young Christians as well as those well versed. Find anything! I recommend everyone get one for your teens. Help them use their Bibles.

I had come across an older copy of "The Open Bible" and LOVED the Cyclopedic index it had and as a new Christian I didn't even realized it was something fairly unique. Couldn't imagine life without this super handy book!

The cyclopedic index is a very helpful book. The best part is that it saves you time finding all the topics related to a certain subject. Jesus taught in a subject based way mostly and I believe we should follow. The topic way of studying leads you to understand God's Will vs what we think is a better understanding of scripture through our carnal mind. I hope that anyone that wish to do deep study of the bible purchase one.You will learn more than ever before!
