How lucky I am that I can remove the bed covers when I'm hot, something Kelly can't do. I admire Kelly. Early chapters seamlessly transitioned from four different points of view so I understood their role in the accident and felt like I was them.  I'm going to buy copies to give to others who are feeling down, and hope Kelly's contagious and winning attitude will influence them as much as it has inspired me."

About the Author
In 1998, Kelly (Craig) Schaefer won awards in the National Cheerleading competitions, but in 1999, when a drunk driver rendered her a quadriplegic, she lost all her athletic ability. She has traveled to hundreds of Midwest schools to share her story, demonstrating how the human spirit, combined with personal faith and the support of loved ones, can overcome challenges and enable others to succeed beyond their wildest imagination. I just finished reading this story of Kelly's accident and life following it. I was so touched by this young woman's grace and charm all throughout her ordeal. Her mother and stepfather were incredible in their devotion to her healing, but really it was Kelly's own will to have a life that is meaningful and to contribute to and be a part of her community. I was impressed by the faith that was subtle but became stronger as she progressed in life.I almost never get tearful when reading a book, but the wedding made me cry. I was reading this book at 2:00 am on the kindle, in the dark, and shedding tears over this amazing young woman finding love and fulfillment after such a tragedy. That is a well written, really good book!Thank you, Kelly for sharing your story and your faith, and your wonderful spirit.
This is one of the best books I've ever read!!It is so honest and Kelly overcame a horrible life changing experience and did it so beautifully.It made me think about how I've reacted to things that happened in my life mostly negatively.In my defense I didn't have as much positivity in my life as a child.I'm now 57 and would love to change my way of thinking and try to be more happy with my life and learning how to love not only myself but others as well. Kelly is an inspiration to anybody who has a situation they feel is overwhelming and need guidance to change for the better.Shawn is a wonderful human being a great man.so is Andy and her mom and brothers! Are awesome too.I cry for your brothers brain injury.Again having such a united family and friends and church and being so close to God is a good thing too.Kelly you are the bravest women I've known about and your faith is great.I will read this book many times to help me be a better person,a happier and more grateful person too. Read this book it will change your life.
Fascinating true story about a young woman with incredible courage. Somehow she was able to press on, often cheerful and positive, after a car wreck left her a quadriplegic. It was only a brief mention in the book, but I was amazed that she had the courage to go tubing behind a boat, telling the driver to go the normal speed, not slow, and telling the two girls riding with her to lift her head to the surface if they flip over. I was also impressed with her mom and stepfather, how strong the mom was and especially how the stepfather rose to the occasion. This book was definitely worth reading and held my attention from start to finish.
Kelly Schaefer's story of her life after a tragic car wreck is beautifully told. Paralyzed from the neck down, Kelly faces many obstacles in her recovery, not just finding her spirit, but facing the physical obstacles she encounters from being disabled. The story is interspersed with details of the driver that crashed into Kelly's car and the truck that was filled with friends, and also her husband's story and how the two came to meet. You cannot read this dry-eyed. I know I cried through a 1/3 of it at least. Kelly's will to survive and make a life for herself despite her physical challenges will inspire you. While her brother was seriously injured in the crash and there is mention of his challenges, the book is about Kelly so there is no distraction from her story. There are some editing errors which probably should have been corrected before print. Truly a wonderful book about not giving up in the face of diversity.
Her story is both heart breaking and hopeful as her dreams are dashed in an auto accident during a summer vacation. She shares the depths of her despair when she finally realizes she will never walk again, and when the young man she loves drifts away from her. But her faith is deep and the trials she survives serve to strengthen her. To finish college and become a teacher is her dream, and like mot young girls, she had hoped to marry and have a family. I wept with her and then I rejoiced with her at every milestone of victory. Her story is deeply inspiring and very well written.
