This book is not only about Percy Dearmer and Martin Shaw. It's about Ralph Vaughan Williams, and his collecting efforts throughout the English countryside in the early part of the twentieth century, as did Bela Bartok and Zoltan Kodaly did in Hungary. There are many "unfamiliar" tunes to Americans here, which can only result in delight come Christmas-tide when you (or your parish) are looking for something "new" and delightful to sing. (Many of these tunes are so old, that they are new again.) Many are just unpolished gems, like going to Grandma's house and finding something old, careful, and sacred, that you just have to take them off the shelf and polish them. These tunes are not the current "bombast" which we get in new compositions, but old gems, which may be somewhat familiar, but definitely easy to sing. Whether or not your choir is at the level of King's College Cambridge, it doesn't matter, because RVW included many of these carols in this book as they would be accessible to the "common man" (or woman - let's just say the so-called "untrained" singer). They are gems - what more can be said? And what better way to keep them alive than by having your choir (if you are a choral conductor, like me) sing them?If you want an "unencumbered," simplified, and yet elegant Christmas, and you want to breed familiarity with hymns that both young and old will appreciate, then look no further than this book. If you want video screens and mega-church "hype," then please do not buy this book. Go find something bombastic that either Lady Gaga or Cher would sing for Christmas. If you want something warm and fuzzy, but still musically literate, then please purchase this book and preserve the fine and sacred carol tunes which make this book come alive . . .

I'm so happy to finally own a copy of this book. The Oxford Book series can always be counted on to be of the highest quality, carefully put together and well researched. I have the shorter version of this book released by Oxford, and plan to get the newer version of the original, longer book of carols, as well. So good to have these at Christmas, when my family gets together and sings, and fun to learn songs from these books that are new to us, too. A great addition to a music director's collection.

Such an amazing timeless collection! I have a copy from the 1970s, and but was concerned about wearing it out. This book is chock-full of gems. And it's for year-round use -- not just Christmas!!! There are "carols" for many festive occasions on the church calendar, as well as songs reflecting pre-Christian agrarian folk traditions. This is one of the best collections ever.

For me this book is the definitive expression of what a carol is and it's history in England through tumultuous times. While the documentation of the music is wonderful to have I find the Preface most enlightening. The carol is much more than a simple song for Christmas!

As a musician playing Celtic music, I love this book as a research source. Now, playing Celtic Christian music as well, I hope to find some great songs here for a Christmas program.

This is the standard. If you don't have at least one copy of this in your library, don't call yourself an organist, church musician, or musicologist. Really, it is indispensable. Voice teachers, you should use the lesser known tunes as sight singing exercises for your students. Composers, these texts have inspired countless Christmas pageants and have yet to exhaust their full potential.

Content is marvelous. Typeface is appallingly tiny.

Love this book, the fairies are so unique and fun! Although definitely an adult coloring book, half the fairies are practically half naked! & one actually is half naked! Haha! But it doesn't bother me, I don't care they are fun to color. They have great hair and the scenery is lovely too! More detailed than other books, gives you a bit more of a challenge. And although I prefer coloring with markers I've only used pencils so far...they just work really well! But since there's 2 of each picture I still have a chance to use markers! I highly recommend!

I have bought a bunch of fairie coloring books over the last 15 years or so(I've collecting coloring books since I was 2) and I absolutely love this coloring book. The faeries are all beautiful and happy, the adults are tastefully clothed and there are several pages with child fairies on them. You see them playing with forest creatures and each other-it's a great book for adults and children alike. It also has a link at JadeSummer.com for a free pdf version of the book. You will have to purchase the coloring book to get the codes asked for before you can download the pdf form. JadeSummer is really good at doing that. I wish all coloring book companies did this. I buy more JadeSummer coloring books than any other one company because their coloring books are done with a sense of pride in their work and a need to share it.

Received today and already colored my first picture. I started looking through the book and found that there are 2 of every picture half way through it starts all over. It does say that on the website I just didn’t read it and I seen others give bad reviews because if it. There are 30 different pictures but you get all 30 twice.With that said I like the pictures they are very pretty and the quality of the paper is nice. I use gel pens on my pictures and the paper held up wonderfully.I would like some more darker fairies I seen one I liked in the book.

This is such a beautiful book! I enjoy every moment colouring the pictures. Worth every cent!

1st i have to say that i LOVE the illustrations!the reasons this gets a 3 star review is the paper this is printed on, (its horrible - its like they used plan old cheap copy paper!), the pages are not perforated, and a number of the pages were stuck together at the bottom of the page! I have a started a few pictures and don't just cant bring myself to finish them as the pages are all curly and it just makes it no fun to do.I am happy that I can print these on a much higher quality paper at home. this is the reason it got 3 stars instead of 1. Again this review has NOTHING to do with the illustrations as i feel that they are beautiful!.

I really have a mixed opinion about this book. It is a nice book with lots of pictures and each page is black on the backside, which is really neat. The pictures themselves, though, are not quite what I thought they would be and in my opinion, a weird mix. I thought the book would be fairies, such as on the cover, and there are some like that, but then there are also very juvenile pictures that look like they came out of children's color book. At first glance, I would have just given it to my Grandaughter, who is 8, but then there are the more risqué pictures, that are a little mature for her to be coloring. So I dismantled the book, hers and mine!! Now, we will both get some enjoyment out of it!

Love this book! Beautiful detailed pictures that keep you coloring for hours. There is no limit on what you can bring out in coloring these drawings. My granddaughter and i love doing this together.

I don’t think anything can dethrone Warriors Don’t Cry as my favorite of Ms. Beals' books, but March Forward, Girl comes close. Written in language accessible to young people, it's just as captivating to adults--an amazing memoir of a segregationist childhood and Ms. Beals' reflections about that experience.There are many specific touches that are affecting: young Melba’s struggle to rationalize faith in an omnipotent God who would allow such a horrific, unfair system to exist; the daily ritual of drawing the shades and blacking out the windows at dusk; the potent threat a handsy white milkman presents to her family; the observation that no white man ever rendered aid to the black community under any circumstance. These capture the imagination and make the narrative crackle with life for the reader.I thought nothing would top the church lynching, absolutely petrifying from the moment the door is bolted from within and from without. But when eleven-year-old Melba falls into the hands of the Klansmen, it has the nightmare feel of a horrific fairytale. Even as she escapes, Grandma and Mother Lois must contrive to disguise and protect her from the Klansmen who will not stop searching for her. The unending threat to her existence they posed is something that’s hard to imagine. It is amazing to me that, after all that, she would dare go into the jaws of death as one of the Little Rock Nine.One of the things I really appreciate is the way Ms. Beals's trilogy of memoirs gives such a gripping, complex portrait of different stages in her life experience. They reinforce one another without retelling the same story. The initial section of White Is a State of Mind continues the story of Warriors Don't Cry, the chronicle of the year nine black children walked into the lion's den to integrate Little Rock's Central High. It provides a fascinating account of the manner in which the Arkansas government refused to accept the end of school segregation—a stubborn determination which helps explain why the battle for civil rights is far from over. It seems truly a two-steps-forward-one-step-backwards march.These experiences must be shared and heard by all Americans, just as the horrors of the Holocaust should be acknowledged and remembered. For no one said it better than William Faulker: "The past is never over. It's not even past."

One of four memoirs by this highly talented writer. It is painful to read all four but each one reveals life experiences from a number of angles. It is sad to have people who are forced to think, "my People". For this person it partially signifies, we either are different or seen as such. Each book is a profile of bravery and hope. The author not only created solutions but also appreciation. If we look for an example of being inclusive and responsible Ms. Beals is it. She is both brilliant but never removed.

This is an important work, a must read for every American. It is about what it was like for a smart, beautiful, sensitive Black girl to grow up in the Jim Crow south. It will tear your heart out.

My can-year-old granddaughter loved this book. She usually just reads fanciful things so, this was a big departure and very impactful. Thanks member for writing a book for young people.

I intend to get back to my studies here in the US soon and it's definitely comforting to know I can count on such rich material to help me out. A thousand kudos to Luiz Otavio, as always!

I purchased this book because I thought it might be useful for my ESL and writing tutees. It far exceeds my expectations. This academic phrasebook is useful for native English writers and ESL writers alike at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Even experienced research writers will find it useful. For instance, my favorite chapter, "Chapter 6 Referencing," gives 43 ways to introduce in-text references. So if you are tired of saying, "According to . . ." and "X reports that . . . ," this book is well worth the price.

Basically, I have no words to express how good and useful this book is. It seeks to shed light on how to better write dissertations, essays etc, by providing the user with chunks they might not even imagine themselves using. I believe it is somewhat hard for one to easily come up with such phrases as "The theoretical framework underpinning this study is..." or "A number of studies have shown that... . However, important questions regarding N remains unanswered." In my humble opinion, these are beautiful and interesting phrases for an assignment, to say the least. I highly recommend this book for anyone preparing their final academic papers and for language teachers as well.

Seems to be written for beginning undergraduate students who have not been exposed to reading professional articles. It is also written as a fill-in-the-blanks kind of training that includes spelling and grammar. Not for the advanced student.

This book is a must-have if you want to upgrade your academic writing and express yourself more effectively.The grammar and vocabulary tips are relevant and comprehensive.Finding the right words and phrases won't take a lot of time anymore- they're all here in one book!

This has been a great resource for me as a doctoral student. I imagine it will be helpful for other student researchers who want to become more comfortable with their topic. It has helped me feel more confident when talking about my subject among peers. This is a great tool for students at several different levels, from applicants to PhD programs, first and second-year doc students who are defining their dissertations, and early career researchers who are applying for funding! Really a great resource for those days when you hit a wall with your writing!

You don't have to hunt for the applicability of the material; it's built right into the headings: "How This Positioning Affects Dance Technique Training" or "Your Findings and Why They Matter," for example. This direct approach in explaining these concepts will empower dancers to work independently and take control of their own learning and growth. I'm always telling dancers not to pose, that contrary to popular belief: ballet is not static and not primarily shape-dominant (and yes, I'll argue that one with you if you don't agree). Alignment is only useful if it is dynamic and if you can transfer those skills from axial to locomotor movement. ***The book isn't geared toward ballet, but towards dancers and applicable to many genres of dance. This is one of the best Batman books that is out there. Told from the perspective of Bruce Wayne this book chronicles the life of Bruce Wayne from the death of his parents, the event that leads him to becoming one of the most iconic heroes ever, and the villains that not only test his skills but also make him take a look at himself and question who he is. The leather hardcover is a perfect compliment for the amazing pages that are inside. This is the perfect gift for any Batman enthusiast

WOW. What a great book. As a long time Batman comic collector, I only found 1 mistake in this book. (Dick Grayson's original Nightwing costume wasn't the black and blue; it was the blue and yellow with the high 80s collar). It was also great to see how "Son of the Demon" and Damian's birth was detailed with an unmailed letter from Talia to Bruce. She informed Brucethat she did not miscarry and that the baby was adopted (and how she might try to get the baby back). Bruce's instinct that there may be more to this story leaves room for anything...including the possibility that Damian is in fact a clone of the original adopted baby (which, according to Son of the Demon, was to be named Thomas, not Damian, after Bruce's father). This would have been unnecessary had Grant Morrison bothered to actually read the graphic Novel "Son of the Demon" instead of making Bat's son a test tube baby / clone

Bruce has included numerous drawings, newspaper clippings, case files, journal entries, and much more in this gorgeous book intended for you to pick up where the Batman left off. Gotham will always need its Dark Knight, so who better than you? Excellent book for any Batman fan, cool for all ages. *Hand-to-hand combat training and billionaire gadgets not included.

I believe some of the reviews here are a bit inaccurate. This is called "The Batman Files" for a reason & if you read the product description closely; "Unearthed from the depths of the Batcave by Mathew K. Manning; includes in-depth computer files, news articles, crime scene photos, blueprints, schematics, & actual maps of Gotham City that were collected, & in many cases even drawn by the Caped Crusader himself." So therefore it's theme is supposed to be centered on a file(s) & something that came directly or taken from the Batcave (as if thats even conceivable). So in case someone says the pages or paragraphs aren't complete or some of the information seems scattered its because it's supposed to be. This massive tome isn't a book in the traditional sense but a "file", so in that end, Manning & DC have done a super great job on this product. This a must have for any true Batman fan.

I own every book about Batman - from the Great Comic Book Heroes to the 75th anniversary editions and this one is very cool. It's got lots of great faux articles and artwork. My only quibble is that minor villain's dossiers are somewhat glossed over and there is no entry for the Killer Moth - one of Batman's most steadfast foes since the 50's!

Very sharp book for any fan of the batman. Only concern was that the seller shipped a bit beat up for being new, other than that this will make a great gift.If you are a collector, definitely get the hardback leather bound copy. It is something that you can put on your coffee table and your guests will feel like they are not allowed to touch it. It is aesthetically much nicer (more expensive as well). As a cool gift, the paperback will do, but does not do the hard cover copy justice. Would purchase again!

I saw this in the store with my husband listed at $100. At the time I had already bought all of his Christmas gifts plus, I didn't want to get it in front of him. So I decided to get it in a few months for his birthday. Instead of going to the store I looked for it on Amazon and found it at almost half the price! From my husband's perspective (since he is the fan) this book is awesome! It's like a dossier on Batman starting back from the very beginning. My husband's birthday is coming up in a few day and I'm sure he forgot about the book so I doubt he'll be expecting me to remember so I hope it makes for a nice surprise.
