Sports biographies are hit or miss. Many are poorly written or written without the involvement of the athlete at all. Let's face it, for many atheletes, their strength is in their legs and not in their brains. This book is a very pleasant exception. Ohno's intelligence and character shine throughout the book and, as virtually all the reviewers here have written, the book is truly inspiring. As he writes in the book, champions do what nobody else is willing to do. When the competition is over they can be satisfied with any result knowing that they had done their best. A lot of people will tell you this, but Ohno actually did it, lived it, and he has the results to show for it. Is this not a fundemental recipie for a well lived life?This review is of the Audible edition. Ohno reads it himself very well. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the mind of a champion in sports or in life.

I've always found Apolo Ohno's story and successes very inspiring, but to read his philosophies, strategies and life lessons gleaned through his experiences was a real treat. The characters are well-drawn and writing is well-done, so you feel like you really understand the people that are portrayed, and the storyline unfolds effortlessly, even if you're not an insider to the world of short-track speed skating. I, like other readers, am touched by his father's strong character, devotion and tough love, and by their strong bond. It shows you how important parental instincts are...not many would condone or advise what his father was compelled to do when Apolo was squandering away the opportunity to fulfill his capacity for greatness in his sport. What follows afterwards is not only history and the excitement of reliving the drama of the Olympic races, but a glimpse into the heart and mind of a true champion. The short review? A well-written portrait of a champion who somehow remains humble.The somewhat longer review? I really enjoyed reading Apolo's book. I have recommended it to my students at Clemson and to my family and friends. It is a great portrait of what it takes to become a champion and yet somehow stay amazingly humble. How does he do it? Did someone help him write this and help him keep it humble and well-written? I don't know. Either way, I would love to meet this young man and see for myself if he is truly a great champion both on the ice and in spirit. I particularly liked how Apolo handles the side-effects of short-track skating, meaning that almost anything can happen and he and the other athletes just have to deal with it. After all, there were many times in his skating career that he could have whined about how unfair everything was or complained about not getting the gold medal. But, he didn't. At least in the book, he sounds truly happy with what he has. I find that quite inspirational. I bought this book on my Kindle and will re-read it whenever I am feeling that life is over-whelming or unfair.

Love this book. It's so honest and well-written. Lots of information that the non-diehard athlete would never realize inhabits a winner's mind. I really admire Apolo's pure drive, and I hope he makes another Olympic appearance on the ice before he moves on. His dedication and perseverance have already translated into other things (winner of DWTS - love that show!), and I'm sure he will continue to shine...until the pizza craving kicks in again and he winds up a pudgy "chunk" on the couch in sweatpants and tube socks (and oily bandana) watching old skating tapes and living in the past. NOOOOoooo! I'm sure he won't let this happen. He's way to awesome, that Apolo with one "l". The Winter Olympics wouldn't be the same without him.

I normally don't take the time to write reviews, but had to come back and do it since I'm looking for more resources. This book was recommended to me by my child's Pediatrician. It was a godsend! I am raising a strong willed child, and I did not realize that I was focusing on so many areas that didn't matter (but I thought were important). The information in this book made clear sense, and I saw my own child in the examples. My life was a struggle every single day! I knew that I was going to have a struggle with my child, and I knew what the triggers were; I just didn't know how to end them. My relationship with my child has improved so much, thanks to this book! It's still not perfect, but at least we have dealt with the issues we were dealing with. And the thing that's humbling and encouraging, is that I changed the way I behave/ respond, and my child's behavior followed. I was not a bad parent, I just didn't have the information I needed to guide my child toward better behavior.

My difficult child is now 15. I think I read this book when he was a little child, as I do remember it, and it is definitely written for parents with small children. My biggest complaint is that over half the book is "war stories." Story after story about children who are difficult and how and what they did to get this distinction. I already know how kids can be difficult. I was looking for more concrete strategies in dealing with an older difficult child as well. This book would also be a good read for new elementary teachers or teachers in training. Also, BOTH parents need to buy into this strategy, or it won't work.

I think this would be a good reference for parents struggling with toddlers, but it says nothing about kids older than 9. It was very much common sense and consistency, though he didn't rule out learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD. I just didn't find it that helpful for an older kid.

This book is a great resource for tools to use to help manage and improve a difficult child’s behavior. It is also helpful to know you are not alone in struggling with a difficult or manipulative child. I find myself more able to roll with the punches, laugh when I can, and see the improvement that has come from the strategies offered. We are celebrating success more than suffering angst. Still some tough days, but a very helpful and positive resource!

Difficult children can "ruin your life," which in turn can ruin theirs. Do yourself and your child a favor by taking the time to read this book and let it sink in. There are way more solutions to your trials and tribulations than you likely realize, and this book holds the key. You'll be glad you found this amazing resource. The author knows the reality of a difficult child. He was a child psychiatrist with easy kids then his next child was a "difficult" child. He said he even skipped church due to the embarrassment of his daughter's behavior. He really breaks down the differences between behaviors and sensitivities. He helps to identify what CAN be changed and how to zero in on those behaviors so you can focus on them. He also teaches how to discover what are not really behavior issues (example in my own home, my child was really sensitive to textures so would have a tantrum when I put shirts with certain seaming styles, like a two tone sleeve with a seam on the upper arm). Very good book to have, I had for my own child and buy it over and over to give to young moms at the end of their ropes.

I felt so alone in the fact that I was experiencing such a challenge with everyday routines because my daughter was always being so difficult. And especially after finding out that no one I was sharing my experience with was understanding why I am having such issues. No one was seeing the trouble I was referring to. This book was recommended to my by our pediatrician, after I mentioned to him that my daughter is very defiant, stubborn, picky, and overall negative and unhappy child. When I read the first pages of it I had the feeling that this book was based on my daughter's case. I could not believe it. Turns out that she is one of the very difficult children out there. She practically does not comb her hair, does not wear socks, because they bother her, wears shoes 1.5 size larger because otherwise they "feel tight" , only wears the oldest and most loose clothing, new clothes she cuts with scissors ,because they all "bother/itch" her. Sleeps uncovered, and with summer pajama -and we live in NJ, this winter was brutal! Falls asleep between 11.30pm-12am every night after a three hour fight, she is never sleepy. Sleeping is boring to her. Has constant nightmares about spiders, etc. She has extremely low sensory threshold-she is always hot. Does not eat lunch, dinner, eats only a handful of foods and certain brands , if I change the brand she wont touch the food... Anything you say she ignores, cant follow directions, lies, exists as if in a state of oblivion. When asked why she disobeys, she says that her "brain tells her to do so". It is so overwhelming that I was feeling like I need therapy for myself! This is just the beginning. I cant believe that I haven't found out earlier about ODD, everyone is talking about autism and ADHD that this particular disorder is overlooked. And IT IS SO CHALLENING AND DRAINING to be living with the constant fights and tantrums, which are inevitable and uncontrollable.. The book gives a very objective overview of typical situation which are a part of the everyday challenge. It provides a system which has the potential to alleviate the stress by helping you predict and understand the reasoning behind your child's behavior and the reason for the negative outlook, defiance and opposition over your authority as a primary caregiver. We are still very early in the process of monitoring and understanding the pattern of behavior which preludes the outburst, but I am optimistic that it will help us . Will follow up with another review in a few weeks.

My “difficult” son is now an accomplished engineer...this was on my night stand for years and referred to daily... surprise!!! He now has a bit of a difficult daughter and I purchased this (again) to help them guide her in the best way...don’t let the title put you off...it’s a beautiful way to raise a child to their potential

As the title suggests, the author presents within this book four essential pillars of successful investing. Each section of the book is then dedicated to investigating and detailing each of these pillars and they are: 1) Theory 2) History 3) Psychology and 4) Business. The first section on theory, is one which the author calls "the most important part of the book". In his words it "surveys the awesome body of theory and data relevant to everyday investing". This section centers itself around the "fundamental characteristic of any investment is that its return and risk go hand in hand." The second section on History postulates that "an understanding of financial history provides an additional dimension of expertise." The third section, Psychology, is one in which the author surveys the area of "behavioral finance". Where one "learns how to avoid the most common behavioral mistakes and to confront your own dysfunctional investment behavior." This should be required reading at the high school or college level. It's fair to say this book, along with "Boglehead's Guide to Investing," changed my life. If you have to pick one, pick "Boglehead's", but this one is more detail and an overall better reference book. Until i read these books, investing seemed too complicated for me, so I either neglected it or paid a "financial advisor" (ha ha) to manage my investments for me. Once i read this book and "Boglehead's", i realized how simple investing is. I have a much greater peace of mind about my retirement accounts, and i will probably have a much more secure retirement as a result of these two books. After reading these books, i laugh when i hear them ask some hedge-fund manager on CNBC "What's your play?" My "play" is this: stick with my chosen asset allocation in my diversified, four-fund Vanguard account, rebalance once every year or two, and otherwise i tune out the day to day financial "noise" i hear in the media. Buy it, read it, do what it says, give it to your kids.

You won't go wrong with any of Dr. Bernstein's advice and if you are new to investing this is probably an ok place to start but if you already know anything about the subject I would go right to his Rational Expectations, written after the financial crisis, and skip this one, which at least as to examples, is a bit dated.

I have started devoting time to understanding personal finance and retirement over the past year. I've listened to multiple pod casts and read about six books on the subject. I avoided this book because it was written in 2002 and obviously, now, out of date (the 2010 update was a short, and rather useless, post-script). The investment strategies that I have gravitated to have been simplicity and indexed funds, especially Vanguard. I have not looked into whether or not this was one of the foundational books which made an argument for this strategy or not, but no book has been close in quality. Until completing the book I was honestly skeptical that a good knowledge of theory, history, and understanding of the financial business was important to me. I see now that I was wrong. Even after reading other books, I have evaluated investment options completely wrong. I finished the book one day ago, so I would rather wait a year before making this statement, but presently I feel this is one of the top 5 most important books I have read. An absolute game changer. I could not suggest more strongly that you read this book, regardless of how much you buy his advice at the end of the book, I think the foundational knowledge you receive in the first three quarters is absolute gold. Regarding the antiquity of the book, its actually irrelevant and surprisingly improves its punch. The book was written during the dot com meltdown and before the housing bubble. In retrospect, yet again nothing is new and the solid foundations discussed in the book have held true. My only criticism is the last section felt very much like 2002 advice and not generalized enough, which I think can be problematic. It is touched on in his post script, but I think a complete revision would be more appropriate when describing the book as a new edition.

I got this box set because it was free at the time, and the reviews were good. Throughout the first book and half of the second book I was happy with my "purchase". Some parts of the story line felt like a mashup of two other series I've read, the Maximum Ride series and the Lux novels, but since it isn't uncommon to have similar themes in the fantasy/sci-fi genres that didn't bother me too much. I was also pleasantly surprised with the author's technical skill, as this book was not riddled with the grammatical errors often found in books that are free.About halfway through the second book it turned into a struggle. Since I was over halfway through I didn't want to stop, so it became a challenge to finish and see if there was anything to come that would redeem the series overall. At times even the technical aspects (sentence structure, word choices) of the writing seemed very banal. However, my real issue was the lack of true adversity for the characters who were supposedly hiding/running for their lives. For example:**SPOILER ALERT**Find a mysterious cabin in the woods, it could be dangerous....nope, vacant and perfectly safe. We'll move in and confront the owner....good news, he's our benefactor, no worries there. Let's go to the warehouse and rescue the others, it will be dangerous, so we must practice our skills. Oh no, I had to actually use those skills we spent so much time practicing to get away safely! I'm a bad person because I hurt someone who was trying to kidnap me...waaaahhhh.**END SPOILERS**At some point during the third book, around the time Raven was introduced, things started to come back to life. Real problems and better writing surfaced once again to the point where I felt it was okay to give a third star.I just have one remaining issue: What was the point of Aaron? It seems his sole purpose was to create a situation in which Lena and Flint were able to reconnect, but his entire existence seemed completely unnecessary. You can easily find a way to get someone tossed from a horse without an otherwise useless character.Final note: If you like(d) the concept of this series and haven't read the two others I mentioned I highly recommend doing so.

I so enjoyed this trilogy. I had never read this author before and am so happy I found her. If you like fantasy, action, suspence, pg rated sex, and a book you just can't put down then your in luck. I am so glad I got the trilogy because then I didn't have to waste time at the end of books 1 and 2 going to buy them. As soon as I finished 1 book the next one was ready. She is a excellant writer and I can't wait to read more books by her. They kept my interest and had me laughing, crying and on the edge of my seat. I recommend this trilogy to everyone 100 percent.

I don't normally leave reviews but after reading this trilogy I felt compelled to. I have read hundreds, if not a thousand or more paranormal'ish e-books in the last five years of owning a Kindle.. while many were great reads by author's both new and familiar, this trilogy blew me away. I read all three full length novels over the weekend, so pretty much non stop other than when sleeping. I found myself feeling both sad to come to the end, and very satisfied with this read - individually and collectively,these e books were amazing and exceeded my expectations! AND ..I love that I found anew favorite author...

Lena, Flint, Di, Mica, father, Jacinda, Luke, Edgar, Jet, Jasper, Savannah and Raven.....all had something in common. All were stolen as children, some babies, and given an unspeakable amount of drugs to see if the perfect specimen could be created. Marcus, father and Albert all worked together. But when father saw that Marcus was evil incarnate, he took his group and fled. They were raised in isolation, but lives to see each day, which was more than some of the othersThey rescued Edgar, Luke and Savannah, which got them back in Marcus' radar. After 15 years and he still hunted them. Then....they captured Lena, the love of Flints life. Thinks will be resolved, one way or another.They accidentally find Rabin has been raised by Marcus. But he and Flunk and Di share more than just abilities.It's a good series. I got hooked on it.Read on my friends.

The Lost Children Trilogy is the best book(s) I've read in a long time. The story and characters grabbed me at the very beginning and held me captive for quite a while. I had actually gotten away from reading for a long time then I started these books and I just could not stop reading. I picked my Kindle up every chance I got and read, often into the wee hours. I loved the story line and really loved the characters. The books had non stop action and the story line was fluid and easy to read, very few if any grammatical errors. I hated to reach the "The End". I will be looking for more books from this author. Read it, I believe you will like it. I strongly recommend it.

I really want Lena and her family to be free of their evil past, but are we ever truly free from our pasts?I can't wait to read the next series.

This book is filled with aerial pictures of different parts of Paris. Paris is one of the most beautiful cities and this captures all of the most beautiful places all around the city in one book. It is great as a coffee table book for someone who loves Paris and great for a flip through as well.

I saw the wonderful video in Paris at the Marmottan Monet Museum. I was able to view his fantastic photographs exhibited there as well as see the video set to French songs. I bought the book and it is just a wonderful keepsake for anyone that loves Paris. My regret? That I can't get my hands on the incredible video as well. BUY THE BOOK!

I Didn't pay attention to how small it was, but Its a great little book.

It's a "must" for every bookcase. Splendid photos displayed in the appropriate size book. If you have been to Paris, you will see it like never before and if you haven't, you will definately want to visit it.

Absolutely beautiful pictures of a Paris we will never otherwise see. .... Our love affair with this fair city continues!!

I am cross-posting here my review of the smaller-format (and cheaper) version (ISBN-13: 978-2812308772) of this book published in 2013.With the 3 stars it seems I am being critical but it is a reflection of the editing rather than the photography.....................This somewhat smaller (in physical size; page number is identical) than the original edition. It is close to A4 size in landscape format and so is not "small" and I find the size to be perfectly adequate. The photography is of the expected high quality and reproduction is fine (the "cheaper" edition is presumably entirely about size rather than quality of print or paper etc). It is published by Editions du Chene/Hachette Livre and is printed in Italy.The imperfections relate to the formatting. For those only interested in a coffee-table book with pretty pictures and don't care much about the content, then they won't be bothered about my concerns.First, I have a gripe with many similar books when the information (caption) to each photo is not on the same page (or opposing page). Instead captions are grouped together approximately every ten pages, ie. with 8-10 captions together. That is marginally better than the even worse/dumber habit of some modern books of putting them all together at the end of the book! Worse, the location of the captions is not consistent--in some cases it is before the group of photos they describe, sometimes after, and in at least one case, both! It shouldn't be a chore to read about the photo. I suppose this is justified on the dubious argument that captions within the photos themselves would compromise the integrity of the photo. But I would prefer that or to have the photos slightly smaller on the page with the caption adjacent on the same page.Second, although I always am hungry for more information on the subject I would say the ≈50 to 100 words is not bad, however location information is inconsistent. Sometimes street addresses are given but sometimes there isn't a clue as to where the subject is. I reckon at minimum the arrondissement should be given (or suburb, as a few are just outside Paris). I really like to get a geographic feel for a city so I would actually like a map showing where the photos are taken. In fact the endpapers are double-page spreads of a satellite (or high-flying plane) image of Paris which is nice but for most people not very useful--it could have easily had the numbers of the photos on it.Third, the text pages are not numbered while the photo pages have the page number (and 2 or 3 word decriptor) in tiny print in the inner (binding) edge on both facing pages! This adds to gripe #2 in making it a real bore to connect the two or to find a photo from the caption, or the index.Fourth, the index is deeply inadequate. Only about half the photos or locations are listed (≈130 of 232) and are listed in a very uninformative, impractical manner, eg. all "Places" are listed under P. It is really quite trivial for a proper index to be compiled and I like it to be done in several ways, such as alphabetical (but using the unique name not the generic feature like P for Place or S for Square!) and by arrondissement (which is the primary way one thinks of Paris in a geo-location sense). Almost certainly the publisher already has this information compiled in some file.And that brings me to gripe at those editors. There were a whole bunch involved in the production of this book (7 listed in addition to the 2 authors), not counting the unpaid interns who probably did the actual work! So there is no real excuse for being so lazy on all these issues. They are really not adding much to the publishing exercise and are not serving the photographer well. Such a pity when one realizes how much time and effort has gone into getting these photos.There are really only two other comparable books.The first was Robert Cameron's (and Pierre Salinger) Above Paris (ISBN-13: 978-0918684196) which was published in 1984 (and to my knowledge not updated). Although it has fewer pages at 160 compared to 232, it somehow seems more comprehensive. That may partly be due to the larger format (book & pictures) and so each photo covers a wider aspect. The spectacular cover photo is an excellent example because it encompasses both islands, part of the Marais and right-bank highlights such as Hotel de Ville, Louvre, Centre Pompidou, Les Halles etc; and Leftbank. It also covers the near banlieu (cathedral Saint Denis, Neuilly etc), the airports and many of the fabulous chateaux in Ile de France.The other book is Philippe Guignard's "Paris Flying High" published in 2007 (ISBN-13 978-8854403413). It is a smaller format (a bit bigger than A5 in landscape) than the Arthus-Bertrand book, but I wouldn't hold that against it. At 518 pages it is two and a quarter times the size of the latter so it also feels more substantial.Both these other books have better organization with respect to captions but both don't have much in the way of geo-location information. I'm a fan of all three books so it is hard for me to suggest only one of them. This version of the Arthus-Bertrand book is a great bargain at the Amazon price

I am writing mostly in response to the comments from Dr J E Robinson (Jack in Toronto). I share Jack's general appraisal that this is a "wonderful" book and "the photos are stunning."However, I felt that Jack's references to the book's size/length ("short book...not big....all too short") might unduly discourage potential buyers. This is a magnificent book, over-sized, with many double-paged, marginless photographs. The page count, 183, is not great but this is not a "small" book. It comes in on my postal scale at 3 1/2 pounds! I could easily see this book priced at $... As long as Amazon continues to offer it at $..., it is aa terrific value.An extra feature of this book that I particularly enjoy is the color, satellite image on the endsheets (front and rear). This is a great image for keeping yourself oriented. I give it an enthusiastic five stars, both in absolute terms, and in acknowledgement of what seems to me an excellent value.

The images in this book are first rate and very vivid. Paris is of course a gorgeous city and making her look good is not that difficult, but this book does show her at her best. It's easy to forget at street level how green Paris is and how many parks and private green spaces the city possesses, when viewed for the air you see how brilliant Haussmann, Napoleon III's prefect of the Seine, redesigned the city. It was said he designed the grand boulevard so that the Emperor could easily get troops in in the event of politcal unrest, but whatever the reason it makes for a spectacularly beautiful city. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a love for Paris, and frankly who could not love this singular city.

This book is truly incredible. After a lot of years of making large amounts of bread by hand, I had stopped making bread for a few years because I didn't eat that much myself. Recently I have decided to get back into making my own bread and am very happy. I used to make six loaves at a time but decided to just make two at a time and bake them in my Oster toaster oven. I also bought an excellent Sunbeam bread machine and, for convenience sake, am using that to take the bread through the first rising. I ordered this book thinking I might copy two or three recipes and then pass the book on to my daughter. When I started looking through the book I was amazed. I immediately ordered a second copy of this book for my daughter. There are huge numbers of wonderful bread recipes I would have never thought of in there. There are also some jam recipes and some instructions for making some of the toppings you might want to use on fancy breads. I plan on making some of these unusual and incredible breads for family occasions in the future so I had to hold on to this book. Anyone who either has a bread machine, makes their own bread without a machine, or is thinking of getting into bread making should grab a copy of this book right away. You will be forever grateful for this book.

I got this recipe book because I wanted to try some smaller loaves than the one in The Bread Lover's Bread Machine handbook and per reviews this one scales all the recipes for you to different loaf sizes so I wouldn't have to worry about those odd recipes where you halve everything except the one crucial ingredient that has to stay the same or be reduced at a different rate than everything else.The first recipe I tried in the book (The second recipe listed: Blue ribbon bread machine bread) at 1-lb size and saw that there was 1.5t of salt in there, I followed the instructions and got a salty, salty loaf. Went back and checked the recipe and saw that the salt had been scaled back proportionately in all of the other sizes, but the 1-lb loaf had the same amount of salt as the 1.5 lb loaf. Definitely a typo.So while this cookbook does the proportions for different loaf sizes it DOES NOT get them right.

I have a large collection of bread machine cookbooks, many of which I no longer use, so I'm not one to run out and buy any new one that comes along. But this one caught my eye; I hoped it would have some unusual bread recipes. I've yet to be disappointed.The variety of recipes is extensive. Every one I have tried has turned out perfectly, from fairly basic recipes (Whole Wheat Cheddar Cheese, Anadama, and various ryes) to the more unusual (Chocolate Glazed Banana Coconut Swirl Loaf was delicious). Most of the recipes provide the measurements for various size loaves, from 1 to 3 pounds, which is helpful. Many, especially those using whole wheat, call for "Artisan Dough Enhancer." Ms. Fertig provides a recipe for making your own if you wish. I did that and have used it, but I honestly can't say if it's made much difference in the loaves. However, I have noticed that all the loaves I've baked from this book have been more moist than recipes from other books (the book I favored and mainly used up until this purchase is The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook, and I still highly recommend it).UPDATE 8/30/12: One problem has come to my attention which isn't much of a problem if you're a seasoned bread maker, because you will catch it immediately. The problem is, the measurement amounts for yeast in the larger (2 & 3 lb) loaves are wrong. When I first started using the book I thought it was just a typo in one or two recipes but now I know that every recipe calls for exceedingly small amounts of yeast for large quantities of flour. The measurements are correct for the 1 and 1-1/2 pound breads, but if you are making the 2 or 3 pound loaves that call for 4 to 5+ cups of flour, you need to use more than 1-1/4 TEASPOONs of yeast! I do think this is a typographical error, but it is consistent throughout the book. {End of update.}The recipes includes tips on water temperature, variations on ingredients, as well as instructions for oven rather than machine baking. Buns & rolls, braids & brioches, and an assortment of dough recipes, every type of bread is represented here, along with a variety of fillings, glazes and even a few chutneys. Throughout the book are scattered a number of full color photographs, making the book a delight to browse.All in all, The Artisan Bread Machine recipe book is excellent, well worth the discounted price here on Amazon (or full price, for that matter). I'm happy I bought it.

The recipes look interesting, although I haven't tried any yet. The stars are based on layout and a quick read of the recipes. I like having the separate recipes for different loaf sizes. But, it was a very odd choice to include "metric" by converting imperial volume measures to metric volume measures. It's much more common to use a weight-based metric system. (Which would have solved the measuring issue the author raises in the introductory material.) I will just weigh as I go the first time I make each recipe and annotate the book.

My husband bought me a fancy bread machine and I wanted recipes that were tested by a professional and not recipes made up without real baking knowledge and posted online. This book is exactly what I was looking for. The layout is great; simple instructions broken down by size of loaf with hints and tips listed along the side. I have tried a few and each were fantastic. Each recipe came out exactly as described. If you have a bread machine buy this book!

I enjoyed the recipes for the breads which is maybe half the book. The breads come out pretty good and I especially appreciate that you get the same recipe but for different size loafs. You can't just halve a recipe when you see a recipe for a 2 lb loaf and want a 1 lb loaf so it's very helpful to have the 1, 1 1/2, and 2 lb versions. The second half of the book covering rolls, flatbreads and pizzas was not so great since these all require baking time in the oven. I use a bread machine specifically because I don't want to have to bake in the oven so these don't work for me. Had I known that I would have sought out a different book. But I did enjoy the bread section so not a bad purchase overall. Hope this review helps a little in making your decision.

Small book, absorbing content.Klein's use of movement and often very clever composition captivates. I have no clear favorites given the overall quality of his work but want to mention some highlights:No 3 "Gun 2" with a priceless expression, No 2 "St. Patrick's Day" with a staggered stern seriousness, No 9 "Candy Store" which is simply beautiful or beautifully simple, No 16 "Corner Cigar Store" with a good dozen stories in a single frame, No 2o "Watchman" with one of the most compelling compositions I ever saw, No 28 "Bikini" with life in 3 panels and multiple verticals, No 35 "Bodybuilder" where reality melts with its symbol, No 48 "Cafe terrace" where most of us would walk by but Klein captures life divided etc etc...I also like Klein's technique. As much as possible in focus, never care about blur, push the film as high as it needs to be, grain or no grain. Content is King.Otherwise, Thames & Hudson delivers an incredible quality product for a very low price. The choice of essays about Klein and his work instead of lengthy texts at the beginning is spot on.
